Reduced carbon footprint through optimised engineering
Press release 2024-12-05
Ecophon takes another step towards its goal of net-zero acoustics. Following extensive product development and improvement in production, Ecophon is now able to offer an upgraded glass wool panel with maintained acoustic performance. Their investment in sustainability research and development has resulted in a new generation of products with a reduction of between 11% and 19% in carbon footprint1.
This achievement is made by advanced process engineering, covering 18 products2, for which 5 also generated improved sound absorption αw by 0.05.
“Sustainability and genuine product innovation are at the heart of Ecophon’s value proposition, just as good acoustics. While CO2 reduction is a key factor in all new product development, optimising our existing product range to established market demand, is the way we move the needle and achieve immediate CO2 reductions”, says Laura Seitovirta, Marketing Director at Ecophon.
The optimised density reduces raw material usage and processing, while consuming less energy during production. The lighter panels lead to more ergonomic handling and easier transportation, further contributing to a reduced carbon footprint.
“The mechanical edge build-up is now possible to maintain thanks to an improved glass wool structure. Too dense products are not positive for either the acoustic properties or the environment. We are proud to have worked so thoroughly to ensure a painted edge with sustained performance”, says Anna-Karin Grimshorn, Senior R&D Project Manager at Ecophon.
Ecophon’s sustainable approach to product innovation dates back to 1990, when it began developing acoustic performance ceilings and wall panels using glass wool made from recycled glass jars and bottles. Parallel to optimising the carbon footprint of its products, Ecophon has launched SoundCircularity services aiming to help customers reuse and recycle products.
Going forward, Ecophon will continue to optimise the environmental performance of its products and services, moving towards the goal of becoming the first net-zero acoustic solution manufacturer.
