Ecophon takes an active role as European sustainable construction experts gather

Press release 2024-06-18

Each year national experts from many European countries gather to review the working programme of CEN1 TC 350 Sustainability of construction works. In relation to this meeting in Stockholm on June 20, Ecophon will arrange study visits together with Swedish Wood and the Swedish Institute for Standards to showcase high Swedish ambitions.

Ecophon has a long history of contributing to standardisation on national and international levels. Standardisation is a cornerstone of Ecophon’s commitment to contributing to a high-performing industry through common technical specifications. Since 1999 Ecophon has had the chairmanship of the national Swedish mirror committee to CEN TC 277 Suspended ceilings, defining performance requirements and test methods.

“Ecophon is committed to honest and fact-based communication, it’s consequently important to participate in top-level discussions that set the norms. Since we are at the forefront of research within acoustics and sustainable materials, we must take an active role in assessing sustainable construction products and continue to shape tomorrow’s sustainability standards,” says Ola Karlsson, R&D and Innovation Director, Saint-Gobain Ecophon.

As the construction sector directs its focus toward sustainable construction and decarbonisation, CEN TC 350 Sustainability of construction works has grown in importance. This European technical committee develops methods for assessing sustainability within the construction sector, such as the standard EN 15804 which contains rules to calculate carbon footprint and create EPD2 for construction products. The corresponding Swedish mirror committee to CEN TC 350 is chaired by newly appointed, Markus Beckman, Environmental Engineer at Ecophon.

TC 350 holds a plenary meeting each year, gathering European sustainability experts in one place. This year’s meeting will be held in Stockholm on June 20. In relation to this plenary meeting, Swedish Wood and Ecophon will arrange a study visit to discuss practical applications of standards within sustainable construction. The visit will take place at Wisdome, a wooden building part of Sweden's National Museum of Science and Technology, showcasing that it’s possible to create spectacular design in wood.
