The new Kurikka Campus gathers almost 800 students from Kurikka high school and vocational education centre (Sedu). For the students, a major innovation has been that high school students and vocational school students are now studying at the same premises, which gives them easier access to each others studying programs.
The most spectacular space on the campus is the 1370 m2 lobby, where the campus canteen is located. This area was given a unique, outstanding look by architect Pasi Siistonen from Luovaus Arkkitehdit Oy.
Pasi Sistonen explaines his visions for the project:
"The acoustic ceiling solution was chosen based on the idea of creating a visually impressive ceiling in the central space of the building. But the solution also has an acoustical significance. By installing the absorbers vertically to the ceiling, it was possible to use twice as much sound absorbing material, in comparison to horizontally installed acoustic absorbers."
In the ceiling of the entrance, Solo Baffle absorbers were shaped using only four cut-to-shape elements, creating a vibrant and dynamic end-result. The tiles were mounted in rows with c-c 600 mm and by changing the position of the centerline a wavy impression occured."
