Kindergarten Nemo

The intelligibility of sounds and speech play an important role even for the youngest children. This led the private NEMO Kindergarten in Beroun to find creative solutions to their acoustic problems.
“The noise level in kindergartens is generally very high. The teachers often have to speak louder and sometimes they are forced to move closer to children to tell them something or to wait for their reaction. The need to speak louder naturally strains the vocal cords, and most teachers experience problems with their vocal cords during their careers. So I'm very happy that the acoustics in our kindergarten meet stringent standards,” says Blanka Nedorostová, director of NEMO Kindergarten in Beroun.
NEMO Kindergarten is intended for the children of staff in the rehabilitation department at Beroun Hospital and is close to the hospital. The kindergarten can accommodate 48 children and its opening hours match the working hours of the hospital employees and their shifts.
“As operators of hospital facilities, we are aware of the impact of noise on the health of our patients and staff. So, it is only natural for us to look after the children of our staff as well. The kindergarten has an oval floor plan that limits the spread of distracting noise. In addition to the standard, fully concealed Ecophon Focus™ Ds ceiling system, we equipped the interior with suspended absorbers.
We chose Ecophon Solo™ Freedom panels for their versatility, which enabled the creation of various shapes suitable for the kindergarten environment – i.e., stars, flowers or clouds. The absorbers are made of glass wool, which dampens the noise very well. They also have a non-combustible core and are fully recyclable,” says AKESO holding architect Konstantinos Tsirtsikos, designer of the acoustic solution at the kindergarten in Beroun.
